Merck Frosst is firmly rooted in CanadaÕs history of scientific research. In 2000, Merck Frosst invested over 100 million dollars in research and development. This amount represents 11% of R & D expenditures for the entire pharmaceutical industry in Canada. This investment allows Merck Frosst to discover new medications for respiratory conditions such as asthma, and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

The future is very promising for the scientists the Merck FrosstÕs Centre for therapeutic research. Thanks to our work on asthma and arthritis shown by our discovery of SINGULAR¨ (montelukast sodium) and of VIOXX¨ (rofecoxib), we have become the world leaders in the understanding of the inflammatory process, and especially in the chemistry and biology of leukotriene and prostaglandins.
